Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is one of the most breath-taking venues in Africa, inside and out. Founded in 2017 as a public, not-for-profit institution Zeitz MOCAA is the preeminent venue for exhibitions and programming about contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.
In addition to hosting the world’s most renowned international and local artists and exhibitions, Zeitz MOCAA is the center to some of the continents most inspiring events. Our beautiful designed spaces have been the ideal backdrop to gala dinners, cocktails, weddings, brand and product launches, conferences and symposiums, as well as private meetings and exhibition tours. All supported by a world-class restaurant with years of catering, décor and event experience.
UNIQUE ARCHITECTURE
Zeitz MOCAA was designed by world-renowned architect Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studios, who reimagined the Grain Silo Complex at the V&A Waterfront as an architectural intervention inspired by its own historic character. Imagine being inside one of forty-two 33 metre high concrete tubes, each with a diameter of 5.5 metres. The project called for a solution that would be unique to Africa and create the highest possible quality of exhibition space for the work displayed inside. Imagine your event inside this magnificent combination of original industrial design and contemporary creativity.
EVENTS AT ZEITZ MOCAA
From high-end events to film shoots, Zeitz MOCAA offers an otherworldly venue hire experience attributed to its understated eccentric interior
design and artworks that embody what modern Africa has to offer to the world. Each venue space in the museum is marked by its unique offerings
able to cater to a spectrum of eventing needs depending on the type of event. We also provide in-house food and beverage offerings to compliment your events.

The Atrium is a collection of venues including our ground floor entrance, the Scheryn Arena, and the Atrium bowl and tunnels on the basement level. It incorporates the breath-taking backdrop of the carved-out silos that were previously used as grain silos. The Atrium can be used for cocktail events, weddings and product launches and can easily accommodate up to 250 people for cocktail events.
The Atrium bowl and tunnels are the center of Zeitz MOCAA, the heart of what once were grain silos. The glass ceilings of each silo (pictured right) allow for natural light to filter through and really shows off its beauty and the realization of its enormity. The Atrium bowl is a beautiful space to host cocktail events and weddings. The space can accommodate up to 60 people for cocktail events.
- The Scheryn Arena is situated within the Atrium on the ground floor.
- It’s the perfect venue to host conferences and smaller, more intimate cocktail events.
- The Scheryn Arena is equipped with a fully functional PA system, as well as a projector and screen for presentations, online meetings or any other screenings.
- The venue can accommodate up to 100 people cinema style, up to 80 people classroom style, and up to 120 people for a cocktail event.
The VIP meeting room & lounge is situated on our ground floor Level 0 and is perfectly suited for private meetings and gatherings. Depending on seating layout, the VIP meeting room can accommodate up to 10 guests seated for conferencing and lounge area 50 – 60 guests cocktail style. The meeting room also includes a big screen with HDMI connectivity for presentations or online meetings. Half day and full day venue hire rates are available.
Located on our 6th floor, this open-air venue is situated between the Silo Hotel and the Ocular Restaurant. The Rooftop Terrace is perfect for open air
cocktail events and weddings. This venue has stunning views of the Silo District, Cape Town CBD, as well as Table Mountain, Devils Peak and Lions Head. The venue can accommodate up to 100 people for a cocktail event.
OCULAR Lounge & Events Space on Level 6 of the Zeitz MOCAA is a multi-functional event and eatery space which looks out onto the museum’s Rooftop Terrace. It truly is a breath-taking event venue which can accommodate up to 200 guests for cocktails and 180 people for a seated dinner in the Mountain Side Venue, which has a 270-degree view of Cape Town, and possibly the best view of Table Mountain in the city. The Ocular also includes a fully fitted restaurant open to the public and a Coffee Shop located in the Gantry next to the Zeitz MOCAA shop that is open during operational hours.

We offer curator-led tours for your event guests as an add-on to your event, so that your guests can get the full Zeitz MOCAA experience. With multiple world class exhibitions and gallery spaces on show, this adds an amazing touch to the event experience.

Zeitz MOCAA has hosted many private and commercial film and photo shoots since its opening. The venue has been used to shoot multiple weddings, social media content, movies, commercials and docuseries that have been broadcast all over the world , including Discovery Channel and Al-Jazeerah.
